As Vice President of our Boat Club & Rental, Derrick helped spearhead his family business's growth trajectory, leading to recognition with both regional and national awards. Through strategic initiatives and a commitment to excellence, BayWater Boat Club & Rentals has positioned itself as a leader in the industry, providing unparalleled service and experiences for our members and customers.

As a Board member of Conservation 20/20 since 2019, Derrick was appointed by former Lee County Commissioner Frank Mann and received support from Lee County Commissioners Cecil Pendergrass and Brian Hamman. His primary focus lies in advocating for the conservation of lands in southern Lee County, particularly those in and around Bonita Springs.

Derrick has served as a board member of the Bonita Springs Historical Society since 2019 and was elected Chairman of the Board in 2022. During his tenure, Derrick has prioritized growth through partnerships with organizations like the Estero Historical Society and implemented long-term initiatives to ensure sustained growth for years to come. Under his leadership as president, the society has benefited from increases in membership, revenue, and media exposure.

Derrick served as a board member of Folks (Friends of Lovers Key) from 2018 to 2020, initially appointed to replace his brother, Adam Botana, during Adam's campaign for the Florida House of Representatives. During his tenure, Derrick facilitated a donation exceeding $35,000 for the production of the welcome video "The Lure of Lovers Key" for the new welcome center of Lovers Key State Park. This production garnered national recognition, winning two prestigious Telly Awards.

Derrick was appointed as the Environmental Chairperson of Engage Estero/Bonita (Estero Council of Community Leaders) by Jim Shields, a former member of the Estero Board of Directors, serving from 2018 to 2020. Derrick played a pivotal role in shaping the position into what it is today, fostering collaboration between the village of Estero and the city of Bonita Springs for environmental protection. He spearheaded the inaugural Estero Bay Clean-up with FGCU Water School, mobilizing over 100 volunteers to remove harmful trash. Additionally, Derrick worked with FDOT to initiate the adoption of US 41 in Estero, paving the way for volunteer-led clean-up efforts. He also led a grassroots movement advocating for the transition from septic to sewer programs along the Estero River, ensuring minimal financial burden for septic owners through government support.

Derrick was appointed by President Jacki Liszak During his tenure from 2017 to 2020 as an Ambassador of the Ft Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce, Derrick played a vital role in representing the chamber at various social events and membership drives. He actively supported small businesses in achieving positive growth. Derrick's bold actions were pivotal in addressing the significant concerns stemming from the "Red Tide" events that adversely impacted the local economies of Ft Myers Beach, Estero, and Bonita Springs. His leadership was instrumental in uniting chambers to advocate for clean water and combat red tide, recognizing the interconnectedness of the economy and the environment.
